stopped into the newly opened radish in the mission for a glass of wine and, per usual, despite having just finished dinner ordered just one little thing from the menu… how could i resist the potential of shrimp corndogs!? the menu is heavy in influence from the chef’s southern upbringing, and creative in that very san francisco way. luckily for me they were sold out of buffalo frog legs or i would have really gone overboard. the corndog was more shrimp than batter, which definitely sold me.
this isn’t food related but definitely fun related! went to see paul simon live at the fillmore and it was definitely a worthwhile experience. my two main observations: he’s so old! and he still sounds amazing! there were a few huge hits missing, and the sound could have been a bit louder, but overall it was a treat. highlights included kodachrome, sounds of silence and 50 ways to leave your lover.
went to check out some of the BA exhibitions at california college of the arts (CCA) in rockridge and on top of some really beautiful art work, saw some really well incorporated food.
afterwards got to enjoy a really fresh and unexpectedly delicious shrimp burrito from cactus taqueria
tried a new and really interesting cocktail at nopa. had been drinking a dirty martini and wanted to switch it up but stick to something vodka based and not sweet so the bartender introduced me to a little something called the improved vodka cocktail. its vodka, a splash maraschino liquor, splash of absinthe, dash of bitters and some gum syrup. basically it was delicious and the perfect transition between my dirty martini and espresso martini.
from what i understand you can use any type of alcohol as the base, “improved” just means there’s absinthe in it.
it was also made with fair quinoa vodka, which i thought was fun too.
hosted the closing party for my work’s annual festival at a mission gallery/art space called root division and the current show just happens to be all about food!
the hanging meat was fun, but not conducive to a dance party and several people lost that fight and went home bruised.
